Around 2,400 out of 3,000 solar jobs in Scotland could be at risk because of cuts in Feed-in Tariff.
The Solar Trade Association (STA) said the UK Government’s proposition to reduce 87% of the tariff paid for electricity generated from solar would affect 27,000 people employed in the sector.
It added there are currently more than 40,000 solar homes and more than 900 solar rofftops on schools, warehouses and other commercial buildings across the country.
Paul Barwell, CEO of the Solar Trade Association, explained: “The government’s short-term thinking on bills is condemning hardworking families to a future of higher energy costs.”
The Scottish Government announced it will support solar projects in the country. Last week the renewables sector wrote an open letter to DECC to protest against the recent cuts in green support.
