The construction of a 4.85MW solar farm in West Sussex has started.
It is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 1,500 homes.
The project, which is scheduled to start operating by October, costs £5.2 million.
Companies Your Energy Sussex and Carillon are responsible for the development.
They believe the electricity generated and sold to the National Grid will provide benefits worth £13 million through the Government’s Feed-in Tariff over 20 years.
West Sussex County Council Leader Louise Goldsmith said: “The new solar farm will reduce our carbon footprint and benefit the local community because the income generated will be used to fund energy efficiency schemes in the local community. This is especially helpful to the low income and vulnerable residents that may be at risk of fuel poverty.”
